This is such a long awaited post!! I have gotten so many requests on Instagram to do a hair care routine + tips for growing hair long so today, I’m going to share my favorite products on how to do so. My hair care routine has changed up a bit once I got my hair highlighted. I absolutely love every product I have in my current routine. Side note: You’ll notice I list a lot of Alterna products– I am not sponsored by them, just adore their products for many years!!

Shampoo + Conditioner
I use this Alterna Infinite Color Hold shampoo & conditioner. I have been a lover of the Bamboo line too but ever since I colored my hair, I needed something that wasn’t going to strip the color out. It leaves my hair shiny and doesn’t weigh it down — which is really important to me to get good volume in the roots. A lot of times, these products that are for color treated hair can leave your hair weighty but these do not!!
Purple Shampoo
This is great for combating brassiness. With my blonde highlights, after time they can get dull so by using this purple shampoo once a week– it does the trick and brightens up my color!! Note: When you squeeze the shampoo out of the bottle, it’s bright purple– like NEON! But don’t worry, it does not leave your hair tinted purple!!
T3 Curling Iron
My all time favorite curling iron is the T3 curling iron. Not only does it look pretty but it works wonders when it comes to curling your hair. I want to film a separate video on how I curl my hair because it would be easier to explain. But it is definitely worth the splurge!!
Alterna Caviar Working Hairspray
I have tried a lot of hairsprays over the years and this one is the once I use currently and love it!! Makes my curls last longer and doesn’t make my hair sticky.
Alterna Texture Spray
I never realized how important a texture spray was until I found this one. When you want to hold a curl, you don’t want it to be silky, otherwise the curls will fall out faster. You need a little bit of texture so with just a few sprays of this, it makes a big difference.
Wet Brush
A good brush is super important so you don’t cause any breakage– especially if you are brushing it wet when your hair is most brittle. I love using my Wet Brush and they have the cutest designs like this marble one I have.
Dry Shampoo
This is a total life-saver for in between washes. It gives my hair more volume, reduces oil in my roots, and smells amazing!!
My Routine
Now I just wanted to go over how exactly I use these products. First, I wash my hair just about every other night. I start out with shampoo and I wash my hair twice through. This really helps get your hair extra clean and gets you longer in-between washes. I then put conditioner only in the bottom half of my hair so it doesn’t weigh my hair down. Then to finish my shower I do a blast of cold water on my scalp and this makes my hair a lot more shiny.
Lately, I have been really trying to reduce the amount of heat I put on my hair so I try to air dry it but if I do need it dry faster, I use this hair dryer. I absolutely love it. When using styling products, I really believe that less is more. When you add all these different styling creams and hairsprays– it really weighs your hair down so I keep all products to a minimum. I then style my hair with my t3 curling iron and finish with a few spritzes of texture spray and a light amount of hairspray. When it comes to hairspray, all you need is a light coating over your hair and any more than that and you are just weighing your hair down.
Tips for Growing Your Hair Long & Healthy
While there is no magic way to grow your hair fast, I think that there are a few things that can help grow you hair long AND healthy.
First, it’s sounds counter productive but make sure you get a trim often. The worst thing you can do when you try to grow your hair long is to go a year without getting it cut. Your hair will form a lot of split ends and you will end up just having to get more cut off because it’s no longer healthy hair.
Another tip is to keep heat to a minimum on your hair. Try to only use a heating tool 2-3 times a week instead of everyday.
And lastly, eat healthy. You are what you eat, so if you have a poor diet, then your hair will more than likely suffer.
And there you have it– my hair care routine and tips for growing your hair long.
