Each season, I love adding gingham to my wardrobe. It’s a beautiful print to wear throughout the spring and summer seasons, and one of my most worn prints in general. I recently wore this gorgeous pink gingham sundress on my recent trip to Palm Beach. I added neutral accessories so the gingham print would stand out. There are so many ways to add gingham to your closet, so today I’m sharing several ways on how to wear gingham print.

How to Wear Gingham Print
When I wear gingham, I like to first choose one component of the outfit to feature the gingham print on such as a top, shorts or pants. Because it’s kind of a busy pattern, you don’t want to go overboard with wearing gingham everywhere or it might look too busy. Also if you’re looking to add gingham but not sure you want to commit to a clothing piece, you can accessorize with gingham pieces like shoes, handbags, headbands and hats. Then you can wear a simple, neutral outfit to see if it’s actually something you’d want to wear as clothing.

This adorable tiered gingham skirt is loose fitting, so you’ll want to pair it with a more fitted top like this bodysuit. I chose this plain white one with a little tie detail on the shoulders to balance out the pattern of the gingham. This would be a great look to wear to lunch with your girlfriends!

This sweet little gingham mini dress is a beautiful pink color – great for the spring and summer. Pair a gingham dress with neutral-colored shoes like these taupe espadrilles and a straw bag. If you need more ideas for straw handbags, I rounded up my favorites on this post here. Depending on where you’re going, you could also wear slides or even white sneakers. Finish the look with a straw bag or a quilted crossbody for an effortlessly-chic look.

This affordable gingham top is so much fun with the ruffle sleeves. They make such a statement. I paired this shirt with these high-waisted paperbag shorts. Again, neutral in color and pattern to balance out the busyness of the top. The pleats in the shorts almost make it look like a skirt, but with the comfort of shorts. I paired it with these braided, high-heeled sandals and heart earrings for a date-night look. Here’s another gingham top, but with a more subtle pattern.

These black pull-on gingham shorts pair well with this ruffle sleeve black bodysuit. This is a great outfit to transition from day to night in. To make this outfit look a little more sophisticated for night time, you could throw on a blazer, strapping heels and a black crossbody purse.
For a lounge look at home, these gingham shorts are a great option. Pair with a basic white tee, and you’ve got a great summer lounge outfit.

If you want to accessorize with gingham print, keeping your outfit neutral will help balance out the patterns. I paired these fun, pink gingham shoes with a white, one shoulder top and denim shorts. I finished the look off with a subtly-gingham headband. This would be a great look to go shopping on the weekend or on your next beach vacation.

Gingham Pieces to Add to Your Wardrobe
Here’s a round up of additional gingham pieces I found from a variety of different retailers. Bucket hats are becoming quite the trend in the hat department. I also love this rain coat that’s only $28 – looks like something J.Crew would sell. And this gingham blue swimsuit is a look for less of the J.Crew suit.
