Working out is my therapy. It is essential for me to make time in my day to work out during a busy work week. And fortunately, I’m a dance teacher so I get physical activity in and work at the same time- double win! But of course I have my other structured workouts too!

Everyone has different needs and starts at a different level when it comes to a workout- and that’s totally okay! Everyone starts somewhere! Some people workout to lose weight or reduce stress. I mainly workout to tone and relieve stress! Whatever the reason, you have to set a goal!!
Tip 1: Set Goals
As with anything in life, You don’t want to set a goal so unattainable that you end up giving up and feel discouraged but you still want to push yourself so you can get closer to that vision! For example, (I have many small workout goals) my goal is to do a 5 minute ab workout everyday for the next month. I haven’t done an ab workout in so long because of my surgery so I have to start off small but still have to make it effective. AND write it down!! You are more likely to reach a goal if you write it down…
Think of it this way “SMART” Goal
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound
Tip 2: Hold Yourself Accountable
Sometimes for me, if I’m working out on my own without a class structure, I don’t always do a full workout and sometimes give up after a while. I need structure so that’s why about 2 years ago I joined a gym. There was a barre class I really enjoyed and looked forward to. This worked for me mainly because first, I loved the class and second, I would never want to stop say a plank because well… I didn’t want to be a quitter… it motivated me to work harder which was a great thing!!
Tip 3: Make it fun!
If you feel like you are in a workout rut, grab a friend! It is SO much better and the time passes so quickly when you can chat etc.. Plus you can motivate and encourage each other!
Tip 4: Buy some new workout gear!
Another thing that totally gets me to want to workout, it to get a new cute workout top or water bottle. It doesn’t have to break the bank, and it will make you excited to workout! Some of my favorite places to shop for workout clothes and accessories are: Athleta, Lululemon, & Free People (yes! they have really cute stuff at FP for ballet, yoga, and running!) I seriously love the entire ballet line!!!
Tip 5: Make an Inspiring/Motivational Playlist!
If I kept playing the same old playlist every time I worked out, I would never feel motivated to!! I love to get a few songs every once and a while so I look forward to it. Some of my favorite songs at the moment: Rise by Katy Perry, Something in the Way You Move by Ellie Goulding, Kill Em With Kindness by Selena Gomez, Me Too by Meghan Trainor, Wild by Troye Sivan
Whatever the goal of your workout, these tips are great to try out if you are in need of some motivation… as all of us need at times!
My Workout Routine
As for what I typically do on a weekly basis, In addition to teaching dance, I do an ab workout as I said above, low weight/high reps of arms, a little bit of cardio, and lots and lots of squats, calves, and hours of stretching because I’m now training for my role in the Nutcracker as Clara on pointe!
Let me know if you have any questions or if you want me to do a post with my specific workouts!
Happy #WorkoutWednesday!
