In Pennsylvania, we’re finally getting consistent cooler weather, which means coat season is officially here! Coats are a major piece of your outfit that you see the most throughout the cold months of the year. And coats can complete an outfit and make a nice statement. I rounded up my favorite coats in a recent YouTube video to share the ultimate winter coat guide with you guys. I included coats with varying weights. Depending on where you live, you may just need a light jacket throughout winter. On the contrary, you may need all the weight you can get from your outerwear.
All of the coats I included in my YouTube video are linked down below throughout the post. But be sure to checkout the YouTube video for more up-close shots of each jacket and coat.

The Ultimate Winter Coat Guide
I really like having a few different styles of coats, depending on the temperate and where I’m wearing it to. The first style I like to have is a dressier coat for workwear, Sunday best or to wear to weddings. I also like to have a more casual coat like a puffer coat or something similar to run errands or for casual parties. And then I also like to have a lighter, casual style jacket for those days when it’s not too cold, but cold enough that I need another layer to throw on over my clothes. I hope this guide will help you find the perfect jacket or coat to wear this winter.
Sherpa or Teddy-Style Jackets and Vests
QUILTED JACKET | HALF-ZIP SWEATSHIRT
I’m starting off this guide with sherpa and teddy-style coats. They’re a bit lighter in weight compared to puffer coats, but some of the options I included are definitely a heavier material. Abercrombie does an amazing job with their jackets and half zip ups. The picture above on the left is their cinched sherpa full-zip jacket in the color cream. The quilting on the chest gives a nice feminine detail. I love the drawstring on the bottom, so you have the option to wear it cinched for a more fitted look or leave it undone for a more boxy look. I’d say it has a medium weight to it. This fits true to size, and wearing an XS.
The fuzzy half-zip sweatshirt on the right feels like you’re wearing a warm blanket. It’s great to throw on to head to the gym when it’s cold out or running errands. It would also be perfect to take on a plane when you’re traveling instead of a blanket because it’s that warm and cozy. It fits true to size, and wearing an XS.
A puffer vest is a great option to have for a little extra warmth. This one is reversible with one side being the puffer material and the other side a sherpa material. I love the white because it can be paired with most any other color in your wardrobe. It fits true to size, comes in four other colors and under $20. Can’t beat it!

Warm Cardigans
I’m including a few cardigans in the coat guide because these are warm enough to wear as outerwear on those slightly cooler days, and give any outfit an effortlessly chic look. The burgundy cardigan was included in my most recent Loft try-on haul and was one of the top sellers from that haul. It’s a really deep burgundy color and hits at mid-calf for me. I’m 5’7″ for height reference, and think it’s a gorgeous color to wear throughout the fall and winter season. It features a belt detail, so you have the option to tie it for a more fitted look. It fits true to size, and I’m wearing an XS.

J.CREW PARKA | FACTORY VERSION
I had to include this J.Crew Parka in this roundup. This medium pink is a new color this year. It has the most gorgeous detailing from the gold-plated buttons, faux-fur hood and oversized pockets on the front. It’s has a good weight to it and think the quality is incredible. It fits true to size, and wearing a size 0. If you are going to wear a lot of thick, heavier sweaters, I might size up one just to give you some extra room in your shoulders, if you’re more in between sizes.
J.Crew Factory also has this version of the Parka coat. However, it’s lighter in weight. So if you’re needing a heavier coat for the winter, I would consider getting the J.Crew version instead of the Factory version. It’s still really beautiful though and think this is a great option if you’re not worried about the weight of it.

LOVE SHACK FANCY COAT | NEUTRAL PLAID COAT
About two months ago, I bought this Love Shack Fancy coat when they released their fall collection. Houndstooth is very on-trend this season, and love that it’s in a beautiful shade of pink. It also comes in a solid cream, if you’re not wild about the pink. The pearl button detailing with the gold accents looks so luxe. Such a Parisian vibe!
This neutral plaid coat is definitely something different than I normally wear. I usually stick to solid prints as far as outerwear, but this one is neutral in color and fun to wear with solid outfits. It adds a fun pop of print to your look, while still remaining classic with the beautiful neutral color. You could pair this with a sweater dress like I did in the photo, but could also wear with a sweater and denim.

Puffer Coats
Puffer coats are a great casual outerwear staple. They’re generally pretty warm and comfortable to wear. I got this one a few years ago, but they’re still in stock. It comes in three colors and like that it’s a bit longer than some other puffers. It gives a good amount of coverage in the back. So if you’re wearing leggings a lot, this is a great coat option. It has a gorgeous rose gold detail on the zippers and like that it has a cinched-in waist to give the look more structure. If you’re going on a trip, this jacket is packable and comes with a drawstring bag.
